Transparent methodology
How the transport ranking works
Each route stores a checked range for time, price and changes. Your selection changes the weight given to speed, group total, simplicity and comfort; it does not manufacture a precise live departure.
- 1
Multiply the real unit. Rail and coach fares are per person; transfers and cars are shared vehicle estimates.
- 2
Apply route friction. Connections, remote stations, coastal traffic and winter approaches stay visible.
- 3
Rank your priority. Cheapest, fastest, simplest, no-driving and balanced settings use different weights.
- 4
Leave booking live. The final button opens the operator or the complete road-trip calculator.
Source hierarchy
Check the operator before you pay
BDZ is the authority for exact domestic trains and live rail disruption. Bulgaria's coach network is split across private operators, so BusExpress and Union Ivkoni are starting points rather than guarantees of nationwide coverage. Transfer prices require a current vehicle quote. Driving fuel uses the same European Commission benchmark as our road-trip calculator.
Planning ranges are editorial estimates, not tickets or guarantees. Confirm the departure station, arrival station, luggage rules, exact fare and disruption status. Before choosing a mode
Bulgaria transport comparator FAQ
What the estimates include, where they stop and what still needs a live check.
Is the train or bus better for travelling around Bulgaria?
It depends on the route. Trains can be cheaper, roomier and better located at the destination, while coaches often offer a faster or more direct journey. This tool compares the specific corridor instead of applying one rule to the whole country.
Are these live Bulgaria train and bus times?
No. The tool uses dated planning ranges designed for choosing a mode before booking. Exact departures, fares, engineering work and operator schedules can change, so every result links to a live train, coach or transfer source.
Why does the calculator show a group cost?
A per-person ticket can make rail or coach look cheapest for one traveller, while a private transfer or car may become competitive for a group. The comparator multiplies tickets by party size and treats transfers and driving as vehicle costs.
What is included in the driving estimate?
The driving card estimates fuel for a typical petrol car using a range of 5.5–8 litres per 100 km and a checked benchmark of €1.477 per litre. Car hire, insurance, parking and any e-vignette are excluded; use the separate road-trip calculator for the complete driving total.
Does the comparator include airport and hotel transfers?
Private-transfer ranges are door-to-door planning estimates for up to four travellers per vehicle. Airport waiting time, late pickup, child seats, ski bags, large luggage or a resort outside the named city can change a live quote.
How often are the transport estimates reviewed?
The current route set was checked on 2026-07-28 and expires after 2026-10-31. Once expired, the interactive route results are hidden until editorial review rather than being presented as current.
