Shape the trip

Destination and month adjust only the starting accommodation allowance.

Mixed route: at the mixed-route baselineThis adjustment changes only the preset accommodation rate; every price stays editable.

These are editable planning scenarios, not booking quotes or spending targets.

3

Edit the stay and daily spending

Accommodation uses rooms or beds; the other allowances are per person.

Couples usually need one room; backpackers need one bed each. The presets update room or bed count automatically when the party size changes.

Trip-wide costsIntercity travel, extras and safety buffer

Group extras can hold airport transfers, luggage storage or shared purchases. The estimate excludes flights to Bulgaria unless you add them here.

One total, visible assumptions

What the Bulgaria trip cost calculator includes

The result combines nightly and daily costs with route-wide transport and extras. It keeps every category separate, so a cheap flight or hotel deal does not hide what meals, tours and transfers do to the complete trip.

AccommodationPrice actual rooms or hostel beds, with party size handled explicitly.
Daily spendingFood, local transport and activities scale by both days and travellers.
Between citiesPrice the number of bus, rail or shared-transfer journeys separately.
BufferAdd a percentage after core costs instead of hiding uncertainty in every input.

These are comparable classic-style scenarios for a mixed route, not averages or booking quotes. They assume one shared room, three meals, public transport, paid highlights, a trip-length-based intercity allowance and a 10% buffer. Use the calculator above for your destination, month and real prices.

Useful 2026 context

Bulgaria now prices trips in euro

European Commission
Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026.
63%Its 2025 household-consumption price level was 63% of the EU average.
€2A Sofia one-day public-transport card costs €2 in 2026.

The Eurostat comparison covers broad household consumption, not a tourist basket. Resort hotels, private transfers and guided experiences can sit far above the national price level, which is why the calculator keeps every allowance editable.

Transparent methodology

How the trip total is calculated

Accommodation equals rooms or beds × price per unit × nights. Presets use one hostel bed per traveller or one room per two people, then apply the visible destination/month factor to the room or bed rate. Food, local transport and activities use days × travellers. Intercity fares use journeys × travellers. Group extras are added once before the contingency percentage.

Destination, season and travel-style figures are editorial planning scenarios, not live price feeds. They expose trade-offs quickly without claiming false precision; your accommodation quote, route and priorities should replace them before you book.

Bulgaria trip cost and budget FAQ

What the estimate means, what it leaves out and how to enter shared costs.

How much should I budget per day in Bulgaria?

There is no single reliable daily figure because accommodation and paid tours dominate the range. The calculator’s classic seven-day scenario starts near €110 per person per day for a shared mid-range stay, meals, transport, activities and a 10% buffer. Replace those allowances with your actual booking prices.

Is Bulgaria still a budget-friendly European destination in 2026?

Bulgaria had the EU’s lowest overall household-consumption price level in Eurostat’s 2025 comparison, at 63% of the EU average. That describes broad consumer prices rather than tourist quotes, so it is useful context—not a promise that every hotel, resort or tour will be cheap.

Does the trip budget include flights?

No. The estimate starts after arrival in Bulgaria. Add flights, airport transfers or other shared costs to the one-off extras field if you want them included.

How should couples enter accommodation?

Enter one room and its full nightly price. Hostel travellers should enter the number of beds and the price per bed. The classic and comfort presets assume two people per room and automatically add another room when the party grows.

How do destination and month change the estimate?

They adjust only the preset accommodation rate. The calculator uses a neutral multi-stop baseline, then applies a visible editorial allowance for destinations with stronger summer or winter peaks. Once you enter a custom price, changing destination or month will not overwrite it.

Why does the calculator add a contingency buffer?

A buffer makes the plan more resilient to seasonal price changes, an extra taxi, a spontaneous attraction or a missed connection. Ten percent is the default for the classic scenario, and every input remains editable.
